Courageous and Strong Petal

Are Daisy Girl Scouts Courageous and Strong? You better believe it. They’re starting to go to school full days – with new faces. They’re learning to read and take on new tasks in the world. They’re learning the world goes well beyond their friends, family and other communities. This petal is beyond important. What does it mean to be courageous? Can anyone be courageous? These are just a few of the questions we posed when talking to the girls about bravery and strength.

Our amazing troop leader, Meghan, was able to compile several videos of women who are prime examples of being courageous and strong. The girls were able to hear from a nurse, a veteran, a social worker and an athlete. We usually think of your body being strong, but you can be courageous in other ways ? The women we saw in the video all came from career paths that require them to show strength in various ways.

We followed up learning about different types of strength with a final question:• How can a girl your age show that she is courageous and strong? We gave them the chance to explore their own personal characteristics that represent courage. We had the girls use a template to create their own idea of a superhero. While they were drawing we asked them to think about the following: What does your superhero self have the power to do? What can she do to help others? What are her other qualities?

It is also the start of our cookie sale. Thank you for everyone who joined the zoom meeting. The girls had a chance to try some cookies today at our meeting! A huge thank you to Samantha- she is doing a kick butt job as cookie manager!!
