Our First Daisy Meeting: The Girl Scout Promise

Today the girls earned The Promise Center of the Daisy flower badge. At each meeting we will earn another petal to add to our blue Daisy tunics. We will let you know via e-mail and the blog what is to be ironed on or purchased. You can start by ironing on the center blue patch.

The Promise Center is a natural place to start, since the Girl Scout Promise is at the center of everything we do as Daises and Girl Scouts. By group repetition at the beginning of meetings and some practice, Daisies learn the Promise and Law.

The girls finished our meeting by decorating the Girl Scout Promise on a large piece of cardboard. This will be displayed in our Daisy Den. We reinforced the active side of our promise by discussing ways we keep our promise outside of meetings; like being a kind friend to girls in our troop and caring member of the community.

We read a great book to explain how everyone is an important part of our Daisy troop! “All Are Welcome” by Alexandra Penfold and Suzanne Kaufman is one of our favorite books to read aloud. It truly shows that we are all part of a community where our differences make that community special. A school ( or Daisy Troop) is a place where all are welcome and this book is a colorful and delightful look at a school filled with diversity, inclusiveness, and celebrations for people of all backgrounds. The girls loved listening to this book and again it hammered home the idea that everyone is welcome in our troop.

The girls did a quick ice breaker to get to know one another and had snack together. They had time to decorate name tags with special Daisy stickers and multi colored gel pens.
