Daisy Outdoor Art Maker Badge

* some of you may have received this badge at the end of last year - we are now completing this project

sept/19/23 .

As Daisies, young girls are eager to learn new things and explore the world around them. One way to encourage their curiosity and creativity is through outdoor art projects. Today we got our Outdoor Art Maker Badge by making pieces outside with sun photo paper and natural objects. This activity is not only educational, but also encourages the girls to get outside and enjoy nature while being creative!

Excited to see old friends and meet new ones.

Before we started our snack we all gathered together to recite the Girl Scout Promise. We then got right into making our art work.

Cyanotype Paper

Materials used:

  • Sun photo paper

  • A sunny day

  • Various objects for making imprints (e.g. leaves, flowers, shells, toys, etc.)

  • A shallow container of water

  • flat surface for drying the art

Our Process:

  1. Gathered the materials and found a sunny spot to work in.

  2. Choose the objects you want to make imprints with. We encouraged the girls to be creative and experiment with different shapes, sizes, and textures.

  3. Placed the sun photo paper in a shaded area and arranged the objects on top of the paper. Made sure they were evenly spaced and not overlapping.

  4. Moved the paper and objects into direct sunlight and left them there for about 2-3 minutes.

  5. After 2-3 minutes, removed the objects and placed the sun photo paper in the container of water. Swirled it around gently for about 1 minute.

  6. Carefully removed the paper from the water and hung it up to dry. (The paper will appear blue at first, but will gradually turn white as it dries.)

  7. Once the paper is completely dry, the girls can admire their outdoor art masterpieces!

Earning our Badge

Making outdoor art with cyanotype photo paper is a fun and educational activity for our Daisies. It encourages them to explore their creativity, experiment with different objects, and learn about the power of the sun. Plus, it's a great way to get outside and enjoy nature! We had a great time! Can't wait to see you all next month.

Feel free to iron on this badge right on top of the pocket area of the tunic- I have signified this with a V.
